“ ‘This is the covenant I will make with them in due course,’ says the Lord. ‘I will place My commands in their hearts and will write them on their minds’.” (Hebrews 10 v 15 The Truth)
Lord, shall I simply
Sit in silence, prayerfully?
What do You ask of me?
How can this be
That I am unsure
As to whether I make good progress
In affirming our friendship,
Or not?
I have got the time to pray
And for this I am most grateful.
I delight in the time
Spent in silence,
Seeking Your presence.
But do You want me
To be interceding, supplicating?
Or would You rather
I simply listen
For the whisper of Your love,
Directing me from above
To deepen our friendship?
In the silence,
Are You inviting me to worship,
By being so fully conscious
Of Your all loving presence,
I do not have to say anything?
Best friends and lovers
Are always fully comfortable
In each others’ company,
Whether conversing or not.
The joy is felt
In simply being together.
Is this what today
You offer me,
As I pray
In Jesus, my Saviour,
My holy Brother?
If this is so,
Then please let me discover
More of what it is
You want to say to me,
But decide to wait
Until I come silently
Before You, expectantly.
Perhaps all I should say is
‘Lord, what do You
Want to say to me?
I will try to listen
More regularly, more attentively.
Please speak with me.’
“...keep faith with God.” (Hebrews 12 v 1 The Truth)
“Let me persevere in running the race in which God has entered me, with my eyes fixed on Jesus, who is always ahead of us.” (Hebrews 12 v 1 The Truth personalised)
Lord, You cannot place Your commands in my heart and write them on my mind unless I am attentively listening to You whilst praying.
Please reassure me of Your presence, by Your Spirit, helping me to remain silent and keep faith by listening out for You to be speaking.
For this I do know: “Without You we could not have faith, nor could we grow in faith. For it was You, Lord Jesus, who gave me faith.” – thank You so much for sending me Your Spirit to enable this to happen – “And You will perfect my faith.” (Hebrews 12 v 1 Cont)
Please help me to balance my prayer life correctly, so I make time not only to ask of You whilst praying, or whilst repenting or praising and thanking.
I must learn to listen more readily, silently offering You my thoughts, words and deeds for Your glorious intentions, but also listening much more attentively to learn from You.
To come into full union with Your divine heart of love, I must call on Your Spirit to help me, and confident that He will, turn to You silently, to listen.
For is not listening to You through the movement of Your holy Spirit, a way to gain access to Your most sacred love which is fully devoted to our Father?
This has to be the best way forwards in seeking for prayer to undergird all of my life of faith. Thank You for helping me so often. Please continue to do so. Amen.
